The Browns are expected to be better this season, despite the fact that they’re 80-1 longshots in 2010 NFL preseason wagering to win the Super Bowl.

They are 18.5 to 1 to earn the AFC North in NFL preseason lines. Cleveland kicks off their preseason schedule at Green Bay on August 14th.

2010 NFL preseason wagering on the Cleveland Browns proceeds in Week 2 when they sponsor the St Louis Rams. The Cleveland Browns are at Detroit in Week 3 and then sponsor the Chicago Bears in their preseason finish. As they attempt to change the culture of the team, the preseason will be a very crucial time for the Cleveland Browns. President Mike Holmgren has made a number of modifications that should make the Cleveland Browns a better team in 2010.

Until the last few weeks, Cleveland played very poorly last season. In the last month the Cleveland Browns won matches vs Oakland, Pittsburgh, Jacksonville and Kansas City. That streak saved the job of head coach Eric Mangini. Now he’ll have to add to that streak.

Mangini, who was formerly the head coach for the Jets, confronted criticism in his 1st year of coaching the Cleveland Browns. Sports Illustrated columnist Joe Posnanski referred to Mangini’s hiring as the worst coaching hire of the past 25 years. To date he has a 5-11 history in sports betting as head coach of the Cleveland Browns. New Cleveland Browns president Mike Holmgren declared in January that he would hold Mangini on for the 2010 season.

Cleveland is turning over the quarterback job to Jake Delhomme and he appears to be much better than Brady Quinn or Derek Anderson. If Delhomme cannot get the job done then the Cleveland Browns are in danger since they’ve got only Seneca Wallace and rookie Colt McCoy. The Cleveland Browns will look to take the pressure off of Delhomme and run the ball with Jerome Harrison. Due to the fact they’ve got no receivers, Cleveland needs to run the ball well. Josh Cribbs is better as a running back while Mohamed Massaquoi directed the team in catches last season. The Cleveland Browns do have a quality offensive line, however until they prove they can throw the ball, opposing defenses are going to stack up against the run.

The Cleveland Browns defense is genuinely not very great. They have a below average defensive line, no name linebackers and an overrated secondary. The team did acquire cornerback Sheldon Brown from Philadelphia and they took Joe Harden in the 1st round so perhaps the Cleveland Browns can be improved in the secondary. The Cleveland Browns do have great special teams directed by Cribbs and kicker Phil Dawson.

NFL preseason lines when you bet on football will likely show the Cleveland Browns as underdogs in at least 2 and perhaps three of their preseason competitions and until Cleveland proves they can win persistently they will continue to receive points.
